MDF
MDF is made from ground wood compressed usually with a resin made from urea formaldehyde. Many different woods are used, including rubber trees. Much attention has been given to possible formaldehyde emissions, altough formaldehyde is a recognised cause of occupational asthma, no cases of MDF asthma has been shown to be due to formaldehyde. The woods are the most likely cause of the occupational asthma, working with MDF is more dusty than most native woods, which might account for at least some of the upper airway symptoms. Specific inhalation testing has shown that MDF dust (rather than formaldehyde) was the cause of occupational asthma in one worker.
Oasys Notifications for MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard)
The Oasys Audit scheme started midway through 2010 and collects agents typed in through the Oasys program. The years before 2010 show old data entered during 2010 or later and are likely to have many fewer notifications. We expect Oasys to become more widely adopted as time goes by so increasing notifications does not necessarily mean an increasing problem.
