Clinical investigation of an outbreak of alveolitis and asthma in a car engine manufacturing plant
With regard to the reference below, are you doing follow up studies to follow these cases and check on the occurrence of new cases? What role has HSE played in enforcing appropriate preventive measures?

The whole factory was bought by Nanjing Motors. We started off looking at them in 2004, the factory closed in April 2005. There was one repeat ten question surveillance medical in about november 2004, done by the occupational health department, who were made redundant along with the rest of the employees. This data remains to be analysed.
The majority of the symptomatic workers are still being followed up, obviously away from exposure.
Following cleaning and air fed respirators around half of those with occupational asthma had normal peak flows and half continued to have occupational asthma. We hope to report these in the future.
The HSE planned a prosecution which was aborted when the company ceased to exist. The outbreak has generated considerable enthusiasm within the HSE and has been a stimulus towards their program for the control of metal working fluids.
