Link between occupational asthma and chronic pharyngitis
Hi,
I'm a fabricator/welder and work for a large company in solihull.
I have just been diagnosed by Birmingham Chest Clinic with occupational asthma. I have been complaining for a long time that i have got chest problems, and also sore throats. i was also diagnosed by a ENT specialist with chronic pharyngitis. I have suffered sore throats since starting work 15 years ago. Could you please tell me if these two problems are linked? and do you know of anybody else with the same problems?
Thanks

Sore throats due to working environments are commonm, particularly when the environment is dusty, cold or contains fumes. it is also a feature of sick building syndrome in offices probably related to increased temperature and particulates. It's not generally relted to occupational asthma and is not usually caused by an allergy. Some asthma inhalers particularly containing steroids can cause husky voices or thrush. If this is occuring, using a spacer device (which you can get from a pharmacy or your GP) will help as well as swilling your mouth with water afterwards.
