Occupational asthma surveillance scheme in Australia
Hi,
I'm a doing a PhD in the university of Montreal. I'm looking for articles or documents describing a surveillance system of asthma in Australia (i.e. objectives, sampling methods, passive or active surveillance... ). It's a homework in which each student must describe a surveillance system of asthma in a country of his choice (in my cas I choose Australia !).
So I would like to have these documents in order to begin my work.
Thank you!

There is a surveillance scheme in Western Australia called sord wa. It is partly run by the asthma society of Western Australia. Our link with them no longer works, I have emailed them to try and reestablish connections. Their address is www.asthmawa.org.wa

This reply is from Prof Ayres who has visited the SABRE project in Australia. They have published their first paper (Elder D et al Occ Med 2004;54:395-9). The data they acquire falls somewhere between SWORD and SHIELD as far as detail is concerned. The paper attempts a validation exercise - not without its logistic problems and broadly coming up with a similar message to the GORDs group [a UK consortium trying to set standards in the care of workers with occupational asthma under the leadership of Andrew Curran and David Fishwick].
The SORD-WA seems to have died. The SABRE methodology is also being used in NSW but they haven’t published anything. A different population of course with much more dust diseases than in Victoria.
