Modest BAL lymphocytosis associated with better prognosis in chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis

Modest BAL lymphocytosis associated with better prognosis in chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis
This is a follow-up of a large cohort of patients with chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis mostly due to birds. Lower BAL lymphocytosis is a poor prognostic factor, as well as the more obvious relationship between prognosis, low DLCO and honeycombing on the CT. After a mean 7 years 73/160 had died or had a lung transplant. The mean BAL lymphocytes were 20% (10-40) in survivors and 14% (7-20) in the others.
