A supermarket worker identified by her Respiratory Physician

A thirty-two year old lady was referred by her Respiratory Physician because of her difficulty in breathing and development of symptoms of probable asthma from the previous August. She worked for a large supermarket at the time, initially on the checkout, then in the restaurant and canteen. She has a 4-year history of headache, wheeze, chest pain and difficulty breathing. All symptoms would start within 5-10 minutes of coming to work, and improve 1-2 hours after leaving. She wakes most nights with breathlessness, and is wheezy on waking. She also has an itchy rash on her hands which goes shortly after leaving work.

She was well in childhood with no asthma, hay fever or eczema.
